Curriculum

Course One: Preparation

The purpose of the Preparation course is to train you on how to become an evangelist using Biblical and practical principles of proclamation of Billy Graham's ministry. The focus of the course is to teach that proclamation evangelism results in an ongoing harvest.

Preparation explores three foundational topics: understanding the message, the need for evangelism, and the scope of our mission as assigned by the Lord Jesus Christ.

The course will guide you on how to become an evangelist by understanding the content and priority of the Gospel message, how to explain it from a Bible passage, and how to share it with another person or group. You will discover the "why" of evangelism as you see how sin came into the world, causing the separation between God and people; realize that people cannot escape from this condition; and learn about the importance of the Gospel as the only hope of being rescued from sin. You will also understand the mission the Lord Jesus Christ has given to every believer, learn the principles of evangelism and discipleship, and realize the presence and power of Christ in the Great Commission.

Course Two: Proclamation

Proclamation presents how to become an evangelist using valuable insights on preaching the timeless message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and calling for a response of repentance and faith. Through the development of three sermons, you will discover the distinctive points of an evangelistic message, the principles of preparing an evangelistic message, the effective delivery of the message, and the essentials of giving a clear and compelling invitation.

The Proclamation course has four lessons:

  • What is an evangelistic message?
  • How to prepare an evangelistic message
  • How to deliver an evangelistic message
  • How to give an evangelistic message

In this section, you will see how to become an evangelist and the importance of presenting the Gospel as defined in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. You will also discover the important elements of the evangelistic message. These elements include the aim, the appeal, the content, and the form of the message.

You will learn how to become an evangelist and how to prepare a powerful evangelistic message as you study the value of the Bible, the necessity of prayer, the organization of materials, and patterns of preaching. The Bible stresses the need to prepare yourself to present the Gospel. The content of the Gospel message is all-important, but the way we share it is also crucial.

Paul tells how he shared the Gospel in 1 Thessalonians 1:5. You will learn how to become an evangelist and how to develop and deliver a powerful Gospel message that will call people to turn from sin and place their faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. The urgency of responding to the Gospel is presented in 2 Corinthians 6:2.

You will learn how to become an evangelist and how to effectively give an invitation that will call people to a definite, life-changing decision to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Course Three: Power

The Power course will teach you how to become an evangelist by introducing the importance of sharing the message of the Gospel in the power that God has made available to us. This power is demonstrated in three areas: prayer, the Holy Spirit, and the resources given for spiritual battle. As we serve in His power, our life and ministry will rest not on promotions, programs, or persuasion, but the power of God.

The Power course has three main lessons:

  • The Holy Spirit in evangelism
  • Prayer in evangelism
  • Preparing for battle

The Lord Jesus Christ shared the importance of the Holy Spirit in evangelism in John 16:13. You will discover the Holy Spirit's essential work and see how He convicts lost individuals of sin and draws them to receive Christ as Lord and Savior.

Spreading the Gospel always involves spiritual battle. Paul realized the importance of prayer as we share the Gospel. Evangelism is a battlefield, and believers will face opposition as they share the Gospel. The Power course will help you to define the enemy, identify particular areas of attack, and prepare for battle. You will also learn the importance of prayer in the evangelistic ministry and how to unleash the power of prayer in the delivery and the reception of the Gospel.

Course Four: Preservation

The Preservation course will teach you how to become an evangelist by examining the principles of building a lasting ministry. Our job is not complete when we share the Gospel; we are to follow up and disciple the new believer. In this course, we will explore the importance of the Scriptures in evangelism, how to encourage a new believer, and the gift and calling of the evangelist.

The Preservation course has three main lessons:

  • The place of Scripture in evangelism
  • Encouraging the new believer
  • The gift and calling of an evangelist

The use of Scripture is essential to sharing the Gospel. It is also the foundation of spiritual growth for the new believer.

You will learn about the importance of Scripture in evangelism and spiritual formation, as well as how to implement its full power as you believe it and share it in the strength of the Holy Spirit. The example of Paul concerning building up new believers is demonstrated in 1 Thessalonians 2:6-8.

You will learn how to become an evangelist using the basic principles for developing a plan to encourage new believers and place them on the road to discipleship. You will learn about the Biblical gift of evangelism, the calling of the evangelist, and the responsibility of all believers to do the work of evangelism.
