Curriculum

Courses Included in this Free Certificate in Apologetics

This Free Certificate in Apologetics is made up of four courses that move from the foundations of Christian belief, through the reasoned defense of the faith, into the cultural and historical questions the church faces today.

Phase 1

Foundations

APOL 101 Biblical Christianity
This course presents biblical Christianity as a full way of seeing life, not just a list of doctrines. It covers core doctrines — the authority of Scripture, sin, salvation, the person and work of Christ, and the Holy Spirit — and shows how they shape daily life: spiritual growth, ethics, family, work, conflict, and stewardship. Along the way, students learn to notice where their culture's beliefs conflict with the Bible, and how to test all things against Scripture. Written for a global, multicultural student body, it respects different cultural backgrounds while showing that biblical Christianity is true across all cultures.
APOL 132 Apologetics
This course introduces Christian apologetics: the reasoned defense of the Christian faith, presented as a mix of reason and faith rather than a purely intellectual exercise. Students begin with foundational questions — what apologetics is and why it matters — and learn to engage other worldviews with confidence. Core topics include the existence of God, the reliability of Scripture, the identity and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and common objections to the faith. Special attention goes to cultural apologetics: using reason, philosophy, and storytelling to engage today's culture with both truth and compassion.

Phase 2

Culture & History

APOL 133 Contemporary Christian Issues
This course prepares pastors, ministry leaders, and engaged believers to address difficult current issues from a biblical point of view rather than avoiding them. It covers mental health and suicide prevention, abortion and end-of-life issues, racial justice and reconciliation, sexual ethics and gender, addiction, false teaching, the church and government, technology and digital media, and religious freedom. Each topic comes with biblical foundations and practical guidance for pastoral care and counseling, building clear, usable frameworks for church leadership.
HICH 119 History of Christianity
This course surveys the history of the Christian church from the time of the apostles to today, tracing how the faith grew across regions and cultures: the early church, its growth through the Roman Empire, the split between Eastern and Western traditions, the medieval church, the Reformation, and the spread of Christianity into Africa, Asia, India, South America, North America, and Australia. Students also learn about key theological developments, important figures and movements, the church's response to science and social issues, and the rise of Pentecostalism.
2 Courses · 6 Credits

Every course is delivered through video lessons and assessed with short tests only — there are no papers, projects, or hands-on assignments to submit.
