Tuition Partnership

Double Your Impact with the Church Match Program

Answering your calling shouldn't be a financial burden. Lucent University's Church Match Program is a three-way partnership: you pay one-third, your church pays one-third, and Lucent matches the remaining one-third. Your out-of-pocket cost drops by 66%.

How It Works

Four steps. Most students finish them in a week.

From admission to your first class, the Church Match Program is designed to be simple for you and easy for your church.

1
Apply & get admitted
Complete Lucent's free, three-step application. No enrollment fee, no cover letter, no church recommendation required at this stage.
2
Generate your pastor letter
Use the form below to create a personalized letter to your pastor or church board. It explains the partnership, shows the cost breakdown, and invites them in.
3
Church completes Intent Form
Your pastor, elder, treasurer, or board member fills out the Church Match Intent Form online — at least 30 days before your start term.
4
We confirm & you start
Lucent confirms the partnership in writing, applies the match to your account, and you begin your program. The match continues every term you're enrolled.
Why This Matters

Built for the student. Built for the church.

A partnership only works when both sides win. Here's what each side gets — and how to talk about it with your pastor.

For you, the student

  • 66% lower cost on every term. The biggest financial barrier to ministry training is removed before you even start.
  • Continues for your entire program. As long as your church keeps participating, Lucent keeps matching — through your full degree.
  • Stacks with PPP pricing. Students outside the US already pay a country-adjusted rate. The Church Match cuts that price by 66% again.
  • Your church family is invested. You don't walk into ministry alone — your congregation is praying for you, encouraging you, and behind you financially.
  • No surprise fees. No enrollment fee, no hidden charges. Books and digital materials are included in every term.

For your church

  • One-third, not the whole bill. Lucent doubles the church's gift. Your congregation's contribution goes twice as far.
  • Trained leaders return to the local church. Students stay rooted in their congregation throughout the program — what they learn comes back into the church in real time.
  • No long-term commitment. The church's Intent is renewable term by term. If finances change, the church can pause without penalty.
  • Flexible payment. Pay monthly on a credit card, pay the term in advance, or pay annually — whatever fits the church's budgeting rhythm.
  • Full transparency. The church gets payment receipts for every term and an annual reconciliation statement.

Common Questions

Answers for you and your church.

If your pastor or finance committee has a question that isn't here, our Bursar's Office will answer it directly.

Does my church need to be a specific denomination?
No. Any recognized Christian congregation qualifies. There is no denominational requirement, no minimum church size, and no membership tenure requirement for the church itself. The student must have been a regular member or attender of the church for at least six months before the term starts.
Who fills out the Church Match Intent Form?
An authorized representative of the church — a pastor, elder, treasurer, or board member — completes the Intent Form on the church's behalf. The student cannot complete the form on the church's behalf. This separation protects both the student and the church.
How does the church actually pay Lucent?
The church chooses the cadence that fits its budgeting: monthly autopay on a credit card, a single payment per term, or a single payment per year. Payments can be made by credit card or by bank transfer (ACH or international wire). Lucent issues an invoice and a receipt every term.
Does the Church Match stack with the PPP discount?
Yes — and this is one of the most powerful features of the program. Lucent's Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) discount is applied first to gross tuition based on the student's country. The 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 split is then calculated on the PPP-adjusted price. A student in a Tier 3 PPP country who already pays 50% less ends up with an effective out-of-pocket cost that is a fraction of US baseline tuition.
What if I withdraw from my program?
Standard Lucent refund schedules apply (typically 100% before the first week of a term, prorated thereafter). If a refund is due, the church's portion is refunded directly to the church — not to the student. Lucent's matched portion is simply reversed. There is no clawback against the student.
Can my church pause or stop participating?
Yes, at any time. The church's intent is renewed term by term. If the church's finances change, they simply submit a new Intent Form indicating a pause. Already-paid contributions for the current term are not refunded for that reason, but no future obligation exists. The match continues for as long as the church continues to participate.
Is the church's contribution tax-deductible?
Tax treatment of contributions designated for a specific student varies by country and contribution structure. Lucent is not a tax advisor — the church should consult its own tax advisor. Lucent provides full payment receipts to the church for its records. Many churches treat the contribution as a benevolence-and-training expense rather than a charitable gift; their advisor can confirm what fits their situation.
Can my family or I fund the church's portion?
No. To preserve the integrity of the three-way partnership, the student and their immediate family cannot fund the church's one-third through designated giving. The church's contribution must come from the church's general resources or from donors other than the student's immediate family. Other church members, friends, and supporters may, of course, give to the church and the church may use those funds at its discretion.
What does my church need to commit to?
One term at a time. There is no multi-year commitment. The church confirms its participation for one term, then renews for subsequent terms as it chooses. This makes it easy for finance committees and church boards to say yes — they're approving one term, not a multi-year line item.
Does this stack with other Lucent scholarships?
The Church Match is awarded in lieu of other Lucent scholarships. External scholarships from foundations, employers, or mission agencies may apply to the remaining student portion. If you are unsure how an outside scholarship interacts with the match, contact our Bursar's Office.
